5 ways to stay true to yourself in college
Don’t fit into someone else’s box. Honor yourself and your future and remember these five rules.
1. Establish Your Code
Establish your personal code of ethics. It’s the mission statement for our life, it helps guide us down the right, and when we work against it, we’re often left unfulfilled.
2. Go With Your Gut
If something doesn’t feel right, stops you in your tracks and abort mission. That’s your intuition talking, and it can be your sounding board for finding out who you really are, and how to apply your talents.
3. Just Be You
Being your authentic self and not worrying about what others think is not only the true path to personal happiness, it’s easier, too.
4. Find Your Culture Fit
College is one the few places where you’ll be able to easily meet someone who shares your same passion for sculpture lol (or whatever your fav class is). It’s also the perfect time to bridge the gap between what you do and what matters to you.Potential new and enriching friendships are all around you. All you have to do is putyourself out there and step outside the radius of your dorm or living community.
5. Patience Is Key
To quote Aristotle, “Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” The slow rise isn’t easy. The internal conflict between what’s right and what’s most profitable can make it hard to pursue what’s best for your authentic self. However, the power is in knowing that if you stick to what you value, you’re always going to make a decision that fulfills you, which is something money alone can’t do. So take time. Explore and give your passion and purpose some thought, because it will be your start on your personal path to happiness.
